Why Is The Cabbage Soup Diet Not A Good Idea?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Andrew Gee The following article is one of a series of articles which focus on Self Improvement, Motivation and Empowerment. It is based on research done over twenty years as a personal and business coach. This self improvement article was written in response to questions which have been asked on losing weight and long term weight loss as well as address common challenges that people have with this subject. I sincerely hope that you find the following information of value. Why Is The Cabbage Soup Diet Not A Good Idea? Successful weight loss is about long term weight loss. It’s not about this fad or that fad and it certainly is not about following a diet that is potentially damaging to our wellbeing. I cannot believe for one minute that any advice or program that encourages us to follow a path of starvation is a healthy option. The famous Cabbage Soup diet. Most people interested in weight loss and dieting have certainly heard of this one. many of them have actually tried some version of it. Since nobody has ever claimed to be the inventor of this diet, there is no definitive cabbage soup diet, but rather a string of versions floating around magazines and the Internet. Every expert who tried to promote this diet has either added or replaced an existing feature, which means that aside from that cabbage soup you can expect to see a wide range of other foods, although nothing spectacular. The biggest problem with the cabbage soup diet is all the hype that surrounds it. Some people claim that cabbage has fat burning properties, which is nonsense. Others say that one could shed a whooping 10 pounds in a single week on this diet, which is not true. There’s no magical ingredient in cabbage that helps weight loss. The basic idea behind the diet is to starve yourself by drinking a lot of cabbage soup and some water on the side. The trick is to keep your stomach filled with cabbage soup in order to keep hunger away while the body burns fat to maintain itself. ========SIDEBAR======== When it comes to the subject of self improvement, I fully understand (through my own experiences) that it is a lot easier said than done. However, you are here, right now, because you have a desire to improve your self or you are at least interested in this subject. Perhaps you are reading this to help a friend or colleague - great. If this article helps you or you help a friend, paying it forward is what lif’e all about so we all win. ======END SIDEBAR====== The early version cabbage soup diet featured nothing else than the basic soup. Recent versions have added fruit, vegetables, skimmed milk, lean meat or brown rice to the eating plan in order to help people stick to it for a longer time. Dieters are not allowed any alcohol. The only drinks allowed beside the cabbage soup are water and unsweetened fruit juices. The soup itself is based on cabbage, onions (or onion soup mix), tomatoes, green peppers, celery, carrots and mushrooms. There are some variations even here, but nothing important. Unfortunately, the cabbage soup diet is not a good idea. Many people cannot stick to a diet that forces them to starve every day, especially people who have to go work. Another issue is the fact that most of the weight lost through this diet comes from water and muscle mass, instead of fat. This means that seven days later the dieter still has all the initial fat on and a good chance of replacing all the lost muscle mass with even more fat. Moreover, the low calorie intake at the core of the diet will force the body to enter starvation mode and hang on to the existing fat for its survival. This is not and never has been a good way to lose weight. NOW is the time! O.K. you have read the article. Now is the time for action. Without action, this article adds no value whatsoever to your self improvement. But remember, without action, you cannot blame this self improvement article or any article for that matter. So, take action NOW. Even if only one piece of advice, one piece of information, one tip makes a difference, then the whole article has been worth it for all of us. NOW is the time! Be the person you want to be, you deserve it! You’ll never be on your own with our free and dedicated customer support and our online health, fitness and weight loss program. Even If You’ve Been Overweight And Out Of Shape For Years, Andrew Gee has done extensive research into weight loss and what works. Save the Marriage Alone: Where Do You Begin?

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Larry Bilotta Divorce used to be viewed as a sign that you had “failed” at marriage. But in today’s society for many people, they see divorce as a sign of freedom. Even those who would consider themselves to be religious and see divorce as being “unholy”, are now getting a divorce because it has become more socially acceptable than ever before. The next generation of children are growing up in broken homes. Instead of dealing with normal issues like puberty and other social issues, children are now faced with parents who start a new life and even a new family of their own. But most couples don’t know any better. We are all raised to believe that it’s simply “tradition” to have a big wedding with lots of people, go on a luxurious honeymoon and then go on your merry way being..well..married. Many couples actually feel pressured from their very own family members to have a big wedding. Then once the wedding and honeymoon are over, the couple is faced with a large amount of debt from their elaborate celebration. The first couple years of marriage are usually relatively painless, but as time goes on, the couple starts to get back into their normal routines and eventually they stop meeting each other’s “Ultimate Expectations”. Why? Simply because they didn’t realize they were meeting them in the first place! The downward spiral that leads to divorce begins when one spouse becomes more discontent than the other. And that’s when resentment sets in…along with that “little voice inside your head”. You know the one. It’s the one that says, “Why should I have dinner ready when he gets home, what has he done for ME lately? He comes home, flips on the TV and that’s it…no quality time like we used to have!” …or… “Why can’t she just leave me alone sometimes? I just want to come home and just relax! But all she wants to do is talk, talk talk. I need some peace and quiet for once!” The big problem is that couples don’t realize they’re on the “Secret Path to Divorce” until it’s too late…usually when one spouse brings up the “D” word or says, “I love you, but I’m not in love with you”. And that’s when I get the call…or in most cases..the email. Most people want to know if their spouse has reached the “Point of No Return”. They desperately need to know if there is any hope left for their marriage. And I don’t blame them! When you’re struggling with uncertainty, hanging on just a thread of hope, divorce may start sounding appealing for the mere fact that you won’t have to worry anymore! But I don’t want you to give up hope just yet. I’ve pulled marriages out of divorce court as a judge put a hold on the proceedings insisting that the couple get some help first before they go on with the divorce. The couples end up tearing up their divorce papers. I say this to you, not as a promise, but as an indication that anything can happen while the “divorce machine grinds up it’s marriages”. So what now? Well, since it’s nearly impossible for me to give you useful advice to help you save your marriage. You can visit http://www.marriage-success-secrets.com to read a wide variety of articles and free advice on marriage that can help you understand what went wrong in your marriage and what you can do about it. Many couples ask me what the first step is in healing a marriage. While many books and self help authors have led you to believe that you need to “do good…and then you’ll feel good.” (An example of this would be establishing some sort of “touch” with your spouse to try to obtain a physical connection between the two of you. This may mean holding their hand or rubbing their back.) In reality, there is one huge, gaping hole in this theory. In one word…contempt. That’s right. All couples struggling in their marriage experience contempt in one form or another. Hurtful things are said that only add to the resentment and anger already present in the marriage. Chances are, if you were to attempt to hold your spouses’ hand, they would view it as an insincere gesture. At this point, your spouse is thinking, “too little, too late. If you wanted to hold my hand, you would’ve done it a long time ago. You’ve haven’t fulfilled my needs for a long time and now it’s too late.” So what is the first step you ask? You need to “feel good FIRST…and THEN do good.” If you’re wondering, “how can I save the marriage alone”, get free marriage advice and a free 30 minute consultation to learn how you can “feel good first, and then do good”. Once again, that’s http://www.marriage-success-secrets.com I hope to talk to you soon. Dentists

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By Damian Sofsian To become a dentist, a graduate with a bachelors degree undergoes 4 years in one of the dental schools accredited by the American Dental Associations (ADAs) Commission on Dental Accreditation. At the end of the course he undertakes various written and oral examinations before being certified as a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), also known as a dentist. Dentists are specialists trained to diagnose, prevent and treat ailments relating to teeth or oral tissue. Their work involves employing various methods to preserve natural teeth, such as filling cavities, examining X-rays, capping childrens teeth with protective plastic sealants, and straightening and fixing fractured teeth. Evaluation of the dental health is done by examination of the X-rays. They also handle invasive procedures like painless tooth extraction, and surgical correction of gums and supporting bones to treat gum diseases. Some of the most common equipment used by the dentist for treating patients are X-ray machines, drills, and instruments such as mouth mirrors, probes, forceps, brushes and scalpels. Dentists normally wear masks, gloves and safety glasses for self-protection and to prevent the patients from acquiring infectious diseases. During their training program they learn techniques pertaining to modeling and measuring the oral cavity for designing dentures to replace missing teeth. This is also useful in creating oral prosthetics and implants. As part of preventative dentistry, the dentists offer instructions on diet, brushing, flossing, the use of fluorides, and other aspects of dental care that contribute to enhancing the dental health. Many dentists are private practitioners, but a large number also form partnerships or work on salary in hospitals, dental clinics, prisons or military units. Some others are instructors, administrators or researchers in dental schools and laboratories. Dentists may specialize in any one of the eight specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. The largest group is orthodontists, experts in fitting patients with braces or retainers that put pressure on the teeth to align them properly. The employment opportunities for dentists are tremendous. The flipside is there is much job-related stress. Ever-increasing number of dentists take an early retirement due to burn-out, lower back problems or poor general health. Dentists provides detailed information on Dentists, Cosmetic Dentists, Software For Dentists, Family Dentists and more. Dentists is affiliated with Dental Implants in Las Vegas. If You’ve Been Injured, Do You Even Need A Lawyer?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Gerry Oginski Q: Do I even need an attorney to represent me in my claim with the insurance company? A: No you don’t. Some claims, and some injuries don’t even warrant an attorney’s involvment. But…many do. How will you know the true value of your injuries? How will you know whether the insurance adjuster who makes you a first offer is doing the right thing? How do you know whether the insurance adjuster is simply trying to save his company money by low-balling you and giving you a take-it-or-leave-it offer? How will you know what your options are if you choose not to accept the insurance company’s offer? What can you do to maximize the amount the insurance company offers you for your injuries? Do you need further medical care for your injuries in the future? Have you considered who will pay for future medical expenses for injuries caused in this particular accident? What happens if you have a recurrence of your injury weeks, months or years from now? Will the insurance company re-open this case and agree to pay me more later? Why is the insurance adjuster so willing to settle my case now? Why did they just send me a check for my injuries? Should I cash it? What will happen if I cash this check? Can I go back to them for more if needed, or is this it? The bottom line is that you may not need an attorney at all. If you have experience with insurance adjusters, and you know the true value and extent of your injuries, then you just might be better off negotiating directly with the adjuster. BUT, if you don’t…then I’d strongly recommend speaking with an injury attorney who has many years of experience dealing with these exact types of cases. For example, if you needed eye surgery, you wouldn’t go see your family doctor for treatment. If you need brain surgery, you don’t rely on a skin doctor to treat your condition. Many attorneys have focused and limited their practice to just a few areas of the law. Lawyers in New York are not permitted to say they are “specialists” in any particular field of law. However, we are permitted to tell you how extensive our experience is in the areas of law that we do practice. We can also tell you how we have helped other similar clients, even though their experiences may not reflect what we can do for you. Again, beware of attorneys who claim they practice many different areas of law. It’s very difficult to be good at everything. The best thing you can do when faced with an injury caused by someone’s carelessness is to become informed. Find out as much as possible about the attorney, the law firm, the facts of your case, your medical condition, the procedures you need to go through to process your claim, and what your legal options are. Only by becoming fully informed about your options will you be able to make an informed decision about which legal road you will take. Beware of the legal minefields when handling your own case. In case you need it, find an attorney who can guide you through those legal minefields and avoid the traps that experienced attorneys commonly see. Inventive Uses for Your Trade Show Accessories

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Mat Kelly When shopping for trade show displays, save money on your overall budget by choosing trade show accessories that stretch your marketing dollars. Table top displays, literature racks and portable projection screens are all products that can be used after the trade show to enhance your office environment or used in other ways. As you purchase your trade show booth, you will find offers to purchase additional items to make your space more efficient, more organized or more appealing to trade show attendees. If youre on a tight budget, the costs can quickly add up, so it only makes sense to purchase those items that can later be used in your office or retail space. Here are a few ideas to get more bang for your buck with your trade show accessories. Table Top Displays Table top displays are an affordable option to begin with because they can be used as the focal point of your trade show space, or as part of a larger trade show display. And when the trade show is over, this marketing piece can continue to be useful. The table top display is a strong visual element that contains key information about your product or company. You can extend its usefulness after the trade show by putting it on display in several different ways: In your company reception area or at the front of the store to inform visitors about your company or a new product In training sessions with employees to remind them of the companys key business principles As a portable marketing tool when making presentations to clients To introduce the company to the general public or communicate a key message or messages when sponsoring an event Table top displays are one of the most useful and versatile marketing accessories that are worth the investment whether you decide to attend a trade show or not. Literature Racks While your literature racks are very useful in organizing your printed materials at a trade show, they can also be used as an organizational tool around the office. Organize Your Marketing Materials at the Office - If a prospect walked in off of the street and wanted general information about your company, are your printed materials easily accessible?. The literature rack will keep all of the materials organized and your staff will easily be able to see when materials need to be replenished. Shape Up Office Dcor - Do you have magazines for your clients to read while they wait to meet with you? Weve all been to a doctors office that has magazines strewn all over the tables and chairs. A literature rack is an excellent way to keep all of the magazines organized and in one place. Also, you can avoid clutter by using a literature rack in your own personal office to organize the various weekly or monthly magazines, annual reports and other publications you receive. Keep Employees Informed - You can place a literature rack in the employee kitchen or break room to display updates to company policies such as: health insurance or investment benefits, holiday schedules, workers compensation rights, special company-sponsored events for employees and the community and even the latest internal company newsletter or publication. Literature racks are an incredibly helpful organizational tool that reduce clutter and can be used to keep internal and external audiences abreast of the latest developments within your organization. Portable Projection Screen Whether you are showing a slideshow or a mini-movie, the portable projection screen can be that little something extra that increases traffic to your trade show booth. Because it is easily transported, the portable projection screen can also be used inside and outside of the office after the trade show. When giving a client presentation, your portable projection screen enables you to arrive at the meeting fully prepared to do a standard Power Point presentation, or a more elaborately executed multimedia visual. At the office, whether you are reviewing graphs with statistical data at an internal meeting or showing a slide show of candid office photos at the annual holiday party, your portable projection screen is a handy tool that can easily be stored without taking up much space. If you use discretion when choosing your trade show display accessories, you will have materials that can be quite useful around the office. Depending on the size of your office space, and the needs of your staff, keep the table top display, literature rack and portable projection screen in mind when you want to make a wise investment with your marketing dollars. Do You Want To Lose Weight Without Going Crazy?

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By T. O’ Donnell Here’s what to do if you want to wear that slinky black dress, and stay sane: 1. Make sure that you’re not being neurotic and overly body conscious. Meditate. Try to catch yourself naked unawares in a full length mirror. Find out your ideal height-weight ratio. Get some amateur photos taken of yourself in casual clothes. Try to be detached and objective. Overweight is sometimes a state of mind instead of body. What trauma or childhood inadequacy causes you to see yourself as fat and undesirable, when medically you’re normal, or just a little full figured? If you are definitely a fatty: 2. Meditate. Try to home in on the reason you are overweight. Is it genetic; are your family ‘big-boned’? If not, what need are you trying to fill by stuffing yourself; are you anxious, insecure, do you have family or money or sexual troubles? If so deal with THEM and your need to eat will be easier to beat. Eating is pleasurable; we get a rush of blood sugar which makes us temporarily feel good, and having a full stomach makes us feel sleepy and calmed down. Are you going for the effect rather than the nourishment? 3. Change your diet. Eat simpler, less processed, less over-prepared and overcooked food. Get back to the basics. Substitute fruit for candies, wholemeal bread and boiled potatoes for potato chips, lean steak for burgers, water instead of fizzy drinks. Eat a grape or a piece of orange instead of a candy; you get a better ‘buzz’, and it’s healthier for you. Another benefit of eating whole, natural food is you fill up quickly, while eating less. The horror of junk food is that it’s got loads of fats and sugars in it while not being physically substantial; you can eat ounces of fat in seconds. Basically, if a chimp wouldn’t eat it, you shouldn’t eat it. Yes, I KNOW a chimp could probably get hooked on junk food. All right, try this; if an athlete preparing for a track meeting wouldn’t eat it, you shouldn’t. Have three meals a day only. Have a proper breakfast; people tend to skip this and then have snacks later to keep themselves going. This is folly. NO snacks in between; let your belly growl. You’re going to train it to need less. It will protest, as it’s used to being big, but it will adjust in time. Stay away from people and places which remind you of your old treats. Try not to let on you’re dieting; your ‘friends’ will try to get you off it, or tempt you for fun. 4. Take more exercise. You can do light exercise, or better yet work it into your daily routine. Don’t walk when you can run, don’t run where you could cycle, leave the car in the garage. Do more household chores the hard way. Take the stairs instead of the lift. If your work or chores involve exercise it’s easy to get your subconscious to go along with it. It seems less of a trial, and you’re killing two birds with one stone. Exercise for it’s own sake is hard; part of us can see no immediate gain to doing it, and puts up mental and emotional barriers. Clean your house, jog to the shops, dig the garden, explore your locale on foot. Exercise at home. Do push ups, pull ups, sit-ups, use a couple of chairs as dumb-bells. It’s a bother and an expense to go to a gym; set up your own routine at home, and stick to it five days out of every seven. 5. Do not take special medications or diet foods if you can help it. Diet medications are usually amphetamine or stimulant-based; they perk you up, so you don’t feel depressed or hungry. Soldiers use amphetamines in war; they keep you keen, and you don’t feel hungry. The trouble is you become physically addicted to them, instead of food, and you’re worse off in the end. They rot your body and your mind, and you have exchanged one fixation for another, more urgent one. Eating food supplements will take off the pounds; you’ll lose a few pounds to begin with in ANY diet anyway. However, what will happen when you stop eating this expensive food substitute? Unless your will power is engaged, you’ll revert to your old habits. Losing weight involves an act of WILL. If you’re the sort of person who diets for a bit and then ‘rewards’ yourself with a cream cake, WHO are you trying to fool? Your subconscious, your friends? You won’t fool the bathroom scales, or that dress you’re trying to get into. Perhaps part of you would like to be slim, especially on public occasions. The other, deeper, part wants to gorge itself on WHATever it likes, WHENever it likes. Eating is lovely, isn’t it? It may be your one consolation in an otherwise miserable life. To fix your weight, fix the other problems in your life, then staying off the snacks will be much easier. This involves finding out what vocation you have in life. What do you REALLY want to do? If it’s nothing, then that’s fine. Once you acknowledge this, you’ll find your peace of mind improves, and your craving for food will be less. Otherwise find some activity you can devote yourself to, that engages your whole being. Eating is often a recreation; find a nobler one. About the author: T. I’m sure that you’ve heard of the old saying, “Bird of a feather flock together.” Here are some examples: If you choose happy people with a positive mental attitude to hang around, it will rub off on you. Hanging around happy people is highly contagious. Just being around happy people can make you feel happy. And when you come across as a happy guy with a positive mental attitude, this character trait will attract single women like a magnet. Now let’s discuss the opposite effect that can cause you failures with single women and play havoc on your dating life. If you choose to hang around people with a negative attitude towards life and who are unhappy, this can rub off on you and make you the same way. These people want to drag you down with them so you both can wallow around in your own self-pity. Your negative buddies may especially be a bad influence on you. They may spend all of their time complaining about how there just aren’t any good single women to meet, aren’t any places to meet women, all single women are bitches, dating sucks, etc. If this describes you, I suggest that you find some new friends because if you develop a negative attitude just like them it’s going to affect your dating life. Women will sense your negative attitude and be turned off. In conclusion, choose to spend your time with people with a positive mental attitude and a healthy attitude on life who will lift your spirits. Trust me guys, if you do this it will be very beneficial to your love life and you will attract a lot more single women. This article written by Don Diebel (Americas #1 Singles Expert).
